Margaret Loughborough, American. -1947.
Margaret Loughborough resided for most of her career in Washington, D.C.
She studied with William Merritt Chase at the Corcoran School of Art. She
also studied painting in France and Italy. She was a member of the Society of
Washington Artists where she exhibited from 1910-1932. She also exhibited
at the Maryland Institute in 1930 and the George Washington Independent
Exhibit in 1935.
This painting of the New Hampshire White Mountain "Whaleback" was exhibited
at the Society of Washington Artists in 1931. Loughborough's paintings
are included in the collections of the State House in Phoenix, AZ, the
Custis-Lee mansion, in Arlington, VA, and the Georgetown, Washington, D.C.,
Children's House.
