John Dowd, American. (1960 - ).

John Dowd's paintings depict the structural features of the landscape in a realistic and often stark manner, producing a profound sense of isolation in the viewer. Always painted without people, many of Dowd's Provincetown and Truro works are evocative of Edward Hopper's timeless landscapes, using intense light to infuse human emotion into his landscape and building scenes.

After receiving a degree in architecture at Notre Dame, Dowd settled in Provincetown and began painting his iconic images of Cape Cod homes. His work has been widely exhibited throughout the country with numerous works held in private, corporate and museum collections. He was awarded the Altman Prize "Grand Prize for Landscape" from the National Academy, NYC.
