Kathy Hodge, American, contemporary
Kathy Hodge’s paintings of Alaska are inspired by two recent artist residences of coastal Alaska where she traveled in the wilderness guided by US Forest Service Rangers. Hodge was the first artist selected to visit the wilderness in the Chugach National Forest as part of The Voices in the Wilderness Artist in Residence Program. She was later selected again the explore the Tongass National Forest, south of Juneau. During these residences, Hodge traveled by sea kayak through fiords with close-up view of icebergs and calving glaciers, assisting the rangers in their work, painting and gathering impressions of the dramatic landscape.
Kathy Hodge has been painting since she was 14. She attended the Rhode Island School of Design and the Swain School of Design where she received a BFA in painting. She is greatly influenced by the natural landscape and has been appointed eight times as artist in residence by the National Parks Service.
Kathy Hodge currently resides in Rhode Island where she teaches and well as exhibits her paintings. She is the recipient of many Awards, including from the Newport Art Museum, Newport, RI, The Rhode Island state council on the Arts, and the Bristol Art Museum, Bristol, Rhode Island. Her paintings are included in the collections of the National Parks Foundation, Rhode Island Children's Hospital, Univ. of Rhode Island, and CVS Corporation, to name a few.
